It probably sounds impossible. The oven is too small for a turkey, the dining area is too tight for whole family and your RV just doesn’t have the same holiday cheer as your home. But by making a few simple changes to tradition, enjoying Thanksgiving in your RV is more than possible; it’s easy too.
Spend Time Together
The holiday season is about spending quality family time together, but that’s not always what happens. Spending Thanksgiving in your RV means everyone is involved in everything that’s going on. Everyone is on the road together, adventuring together, cooking together and eating together.
Cooking the Turkey
It’s hard to imagine Thanksgiving dinner without the turkey, but fortunately, you don’t have to. If you’re a little creative with your menu and cooking space, you can easily cook a full Thanksgiving dinner in your small motor home kitchen.
If your family usually has fried turkey, you can always bring a turkey fryer and oil with you on the road. If you’re used to the traditional, baked turkey, you don’t have to give that up either. Instead of a full turkey, try baking a couple of turkey breasts in your RV’s oven, and you’ll still get that delicious baked taste.
The Sides
It’s no secret that most Maryland travel trailers and motor homes are short on cooking space, but if you use your stovetop, microwave and grill (if necessary), you’ll have no problem cooking a full meal with turkey, all the “fixins” and dessert.
Try to choose sides, like mashed potatoes, boxed stuffing and cranberry sauce, that are easy to cook on a stovetop or in the microwave.
Farmer’s Markets
Use some of the farmer’s markets and vegetable stands along the road to your advantage. Many of them sell pumpkins and gourds that work well as decorations, and you can even find fruit pies to use for dessert.
