Long-term storage can take its toll on your RV. It’s important to properly de-winterize your camper before taking that first spring vacation-and the below tips help guide you through key steps of this process.
Air Out Your RV
If your RV has been in storage for months, the air inside is more than likely stale. Open your RV’s doors, windows, cabinets, slide-outs, and awnings to get air flowing again. This is also a good chance to find squeaky hinges and deal with them before your vacation.
Check the Fluids
If you didn’t mess with any fluids and filters before putting your RV in storage, now is the time to do so. Check the fluid levels, including brake, windshield, and antifreeze/coolant. If your camper has a generator, service the oil and the filters.
Freshwater Tank Sanitization
You probably put antifreeze in RV’s water system to prevent burst pipes during the winter months. Spring is the ideal time to flush that out. Use a hose to pressure and flush out each line by opening the corresponding faucet or valve.
For sanitizing your tank, fill it with fresh water and add a quarter-cup of bleach for every fifteen gallons. Let the solution sit in your pipes overnight and then flush out the plumbing system completely until you see freshwater.
