Warmer weather is slowly making its appearance and with that comes the promise of spring camping. If you haven’t had a chance to get out and enjoy the great outdoors because of COVID (like so many others), then now is the time to start planning. Here are some tips to make things easier.
Call Campgrounds Ahead Of Time
While we seem to be slowly making our way out of this pandemic, most campgrounds are still operating at a limited capacity. Call wherever you want to go ahead of time to find out what their current protocols are and the best way to book. Many places are only taking online reservations and non-cash payment.
Plan To Layer
Spring weather is notoriously temperamental. Instead of finding yourself caught off guard by cooler or warmer weather, just plan to layer. This will allow you to add or remove clothing as needed. The week before you head out, be sure to regularly check the weather so that you can have a general idea of what to expect and the perfect layering clothes to bring.
Bring Bug Spray
Flies and mosquitoes are all coming alive this time of year. Make sure you prep by bringing extra bug spray. On cooler days you might not need it, but on the days when the sun is shining you will find yourself grateful that you thought ahead of time. Also consider bringing citronella candles and anything else that could help keep your campsite free of bugs. Burning sage has also been known to repel mosquitoes.
Enjoy Good Food
With all the moving around and variation in weather you are going to need extra calories from treats like ice cream and pizza to keep you feeling energized. Feel free to enjoy all the good food you want. Science has proven calories don’t count when you’re camping. 😉
